Special guests! RED BOX
In case you need reminding, this recently reformed band had two huge global hits in the 80s - with the ultimate feelgood anthem LEAN ON ME and FOR AMERICA.  Back with a brand new album entitled Plenty, Red Box are the perfect festival band - and they’ll be gracing the Westmill main stage on Saturday evening to serenade the setting sun with those hits and a selection of soon-to-be classics.

MAIN STAGE SATURDAY

KOOPA
are a force to be reckoned with. They're here to rock. Feeding on punk pop rock rebellion, they deliver an unstoppable energy in tunes about not losing yourself or selling out in a world that demands defiance… In 2007, they catapulted to notoriety as the first-ever unsigned band to break into the UK Top 40 charts with "Blag, Steal and Borrow". Two more singles followed with "One Off Song For The Summer" entering at number 21 and "The Crash" climbing to number 16. 2008 brought about a record deal with Nashville-based indie label Pied Piper Records, performances at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, and at L.A.'s infamous Whiskey-a-Go-Go, and the opportunity of a lifetime; working with Mark Hoppus and Chris Holmes on their debut album. Hoppus of Blink 182 and +44 fame helmed as producer; while Holmes engineered, having previously worked with The Red Hot Chili Peppers amongst others.

THE TRASH
(The Only CLASH TRIBUTE Band that Matters)
Shortly after Joe’s Strummer’s death, The Trash reduced a close relative of Joe Strummer’s to tears one night just after Joe’s death - in a good way. She said they captured exactly the unique spirit of the band – and that she felt that ‘Joe was with us tonight – and he approved.’ With classics like London Calling, Rock The Casbah, Bankrobber, I Fought the Law and Should I Stay or Should I Go this is much, much more than a punk band. Ska, reggae and kick-arse rock n roll – the Trash play it like their lives depend on it.

BLONDE LOUIS
Growing up in the first garden city of Letchworth in Hertfordshire is generally a pretty quiet affair, unless of course you’re locked away in a small rehearsal room for hours a day jamming with your mates at high volume, feverishly learning the craft of writing the perfect pop song. Brought together by the boredom of green-belt town life and the love of pop music, this is exactly how Blonde Louis spent their formative years. With an average age of 18, they spent as many spare moments as possible jamming in small rehearsal rooms on the school grounds. All products of the new digital music age in which they’ve grown up in, they cite influences in songs rather than artists and are equally comfortable listening to Enter Shikari as they are Pixie Lott.
Blonde Louis’ music exudes these contemporary music sensibilities, placing emphasis on the strength of each individual track they produce.
“We want to make an album of 10 singles, we’re going to aim for that, you
know”, says lead singer Josh Clark defiantly. You certainly wouldn’t bet against it, especially after listening to their debut single, ‘Sleep on the floor’ - a pounding, up-tempo, slice of indie-pop genius that flies a Cool Britannia flag at its mast, incorporating the infectious franticness of a young Green Day and the feelgood choruses of nostalgic 90s Brit-Pop.

BLOND LOUIS

After supporting the likes of Golden Silvers, Good Shoes and Iglu and Hartley and gracing the stages of festivals such as Rockness, earlier this year, the band’s live show, youthful enthusiasm and brilliantly catchy music has garnered them a loyal following of fellow new-young romantics. Blonde Louis are a band doing things their own way; an organic boy band, for a new generation of indie cindys and post-Top of the Pops teeny boppers alike.

KINGS CROSS
Described by one reviewer as ‘an orchestral Green Day’ and as 'Britain's hottest band' in the Rav Singh gossip column in the News of the World, Kings Cross are the phoenix that rose from the ashes of Belisha - a band famed for their outrageous with clowns on stage, custard pie fights, and the use of fire effects. In 2007 the band was the first to be featured on Phoenix FM - and their single "Who's A Clever Boy" picked up a playlisting with BBC Radio 2’s Jonathan Ross, who also used it as a backing track to his Ricky Hatton interview (Ricky Hatton wanted to use the song for his fights, but his contract would not allow it). Even Brad Pitt is a fan! This is a rare advertised show by Kings Cross - most of their gigs are secret, although there are rumours of an imminent ‘Extreme World Tour’ and accompanying TV documentary following the band as they play in extreme environments around the world in a cross between Michael Palin’s Pole to Pole and Spinal Tap! There’s way to much to say about this fantastic band to fit in here - check them out on Wikipedia:

CHRISTINA NOVELLI BAND
If the name rings a bell, that’s because her dad’s the legendary chef Jean-Christophe Novelli. But Christina’s burning so bright these days she might well eclipse her famous father. Stripped down and acoustic or with a full-on band (as at Westmill Farm Fest), she’s proved the power of her singing, her songwriting and her stage persona and built a fanatical following… Not just throughout the UK - over the pond too at venues such at LA’s Whisky A Go Go and the House of Blues on Sunset Strip. US management companies fell in love and still they keep on courting her. You will too. Christina's new EP 'Lost Without You' is out on July 5th on Random Candle. www.randomcandle.co.uk

CHRISTINA NOVELLI

THEA FORD
Reminiscent of a young Dolores O'Riordan, Ford's raw, haunting vocals pour out effortlessly over beautifully simplistic pop, creating music to move both your feet and your soul.
Particularly apparent in Ford's musical style today is the influence of the strong female musicians that played an important role in her teenage years, such as Alanis Morissette, Shakira, Jewel and Sheryl Crow.
Having left her full-time job last year to focus on her music career, she already has a pending single release through Universal distribution and a UK tour booked for April.

"With a voice that evokes Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries... a classic-looking pop star with curly blonde locks and slinky onstage moves, Ford is an unusual marriage of political musings with a solid pop sensibility." Marcus Dubois (InTheNews.co.uk). On stage, backed by her four-piece band, Ford shines, breathing life into the audience. At a time when most female artists are drawing attention for the eccentric and abstract, the natural style and raw emotion of Ford's performance is powerfully refreshing.

DIVIDED OPINIONS
Since lead singer/violinist Joolz's close encounter with the grim reaper, this psychedelic folk flavoured gothic rock band have been bought back to life with an impressive stint of support gigs with acts such as Wayne Hussey, Miles Hunt, Fairport Convention, Phil Bates and Mik Kaminski, Hazel O’Connor, Mark Chadwick, The Alarm and Midge Ure and have gathered new fans at every one. Folk roots run deep through Divided Opinions yet their sound has developed far wider ranging textures. Having survived the near fatal tag of 'next big thing,' this North London/Herts band continue to blend a diverse range of influences and styles. With subtle, rounded melodies, edgy guitars and heart-ache violin, Divided Opinions expose their raw musical arguments between folk and rock with a gothic edge.

DIVIDED OPINIONS

I DREAM IN COLOUR
Fronted by singer/songwriter Richard Judge, I dream in colour play stadium sized anthems about love and life, with a vocal so captivating it rivals some of the true greats. With an EP produced by Iain Gore
(Mystery Jets, Glasvegas, Libertines) and engineered by Jason Thomas (MD of Monotwin Records, the band are also set for more recording this summer with Rolling Stones’ producer Chris Kemsey and
a BBC Introducing live session in June 2010 after their storming performances at Festifeel, The Great Escape and The Camden Crawl. The band have received media attention locally
and nationally after headline sell-out shows in Austria with Weekender Records and Brighton's Club NME. “With bludgeoning beats, intricate guitar lines and soaring choruses, I Dream In Colour are a peerless live act. Add to this a vocalist in Richard Judge, whose near-operatic tones can channel messieurs Bellamy and Buckley, and you have a truly special band on your hands,” said Rick Pearson, London Evening Standard music critic
."With a vocal as towering as city metropolis, as British as Moz and gritty like real life, front man Richard Judge is a star built in a rock n roll mould." The Fly
i dream in colour announce the release of their debut EP, The Boiler Room, on Monday 21st June 2010 through Monotwin Records, available on CD and digital download.

THE JUDE

The Jude have been described as having an "all round Brits go Noo Yoik cool vibe". This year alone they’ve played the Red Stripe Music Awards, City Showcase London, were nominated for Best New Band in the Emerging Talent Awards and are lined up for Lodestar Festival, LockStock Festival and Butserfest 2010, the Official Kings of Leon afterparty (June 30) and Pozfest supporting The Kooks. The boys have been gigging in London since Feb '09 at Proud, The Garage (headline), Barfly (headline), Vyner Street Festival, Steeles Fest '09, and an Oxjam night run by Phil Clifton of MTV. They also hosted a hugely successful fundraiser/showcase on St. Patrick's Day, previewed in Music Week amongst others.

the jude

Think Kings of Leon vocal growls with a Velvets throb and a little Strokesy staccato guitar fun. According to Room Thirteen, "somewhere between those playful guitars lies the kind of talent that so many bands of today would kill for". Described as the hottest tip of the Summer '09 by YME, The Jude are surely destined for bigger things - wise to catch them now. THE STRANGERHOOD
Bishop's Stortford four-piece The Strangerhood, who categorise their highly original quasi-electronic style as "dirtyacousticsynthnoiserock", are one of the most popular acts on the local music scene. At the core of their sound are the powerful and emotional compositions of frontman Dean Austin, who wields his acoustic guitar like a weapon as he belts out the lyrics with an almost intimidating intensity. The cherry on top of the musical cake comes from his comrades, who lay down some hypnotic, insistent dance-style beats and grooves layered with echoing, distorted cries of electronic noise that sound like some crazed disco from another planet. Experimental but highly listenable, The Strangerhood are a real one-off!

THE STRANGERHOOD

TOM DIBB
A big draw for this year’s festival will be London based singer songwriter Tom Dibb. Part of Insomnia Music Management’s roster of talented singer songwriters Tom Dibb has been working with the Insomnia Music team on his debut album which has been recorded both in London and at Insomnia Music’s Hertfordshire studio with engineer Tony Platt (Bob Marley, Rolling Stones). The album is being mixed by top producer Graham Pleeth who has produced the likes of Peter Gabriel, Billy Ocean, Kim Wilde, and Appleton. With his new band in tow and the a whole bunch of newly recorded songs to bring to the live arena this is one act you certainly wont want to miss. TOM DIBBwww.tomdibb.com

THE CHAMBERS
With 94 gigs in the last year and a half under the belts, The Chambers will be returning to play this year's Westmill Farm Festival! The support band of choice for band such as 'Twisted Wheel' and 'The Vortex', The Chambers will guarantee a fantastic live show to be reckoned with! They’ve just released their debut 3-track single, produced and recorded by Pedro Ferreira (The Darkness, Permission to Land) which will be available at the festival. Make sure you catch these boys before the record labels do!THE CHAMBERSwww.myspace.com/thechamberuk

DREGS OF SOCIETY
Dregs of Society have been knocking about for a few years now and after achieving everything they set out to do (their personal highlight would have to be getting into Bonnie Tyler’s Top 8 on Myspace), they are now myths within the local music scene. Only managing to perform 2 gigs in 2010 (including this one), can these buffoons rise to the ocasion!? Probably not, but a conga line is almost guaranteed.
www.myspace.com/rhysisqueer

THE PALM TREE CLUB
Recently re-formed last year after a gap of more than 20 years, PTC was one of the area’s most popular bands of the late eighties, featuring BROTHER BEYOND’S NATHAN MOORE (though sadly not for this show). EllisWayman more than ably fills Nathan’s shoes and PTC’s good-time rebel reggae is guaranteed to get you on your feet and off your head.

THE BEAT POET EXPERIENCE
This is Beat Poetry with an English twist and an eye to the odd crazy frailty of human nature with incredible performances from some of the best players currently on London’s vibrant jazz scene. Written with a wry turn of phrase and a sharp observational eye, these are poems about life, death and magic incorporating a number of different styles and sounds, jazz, blues, reggae, punk and classical. Live performances by the Beat Poet Experience are always theatrical, sometimes a little crazy but inevitably an event that leaves you feeling you’ve participated in a psychedelic rush of language, social commentary, humour, spectacle and an uplifting connection back to those anarchic ‘happenings’ of the sixties and seventies.

FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS

Fearless Vampire Killers (FVK) are 5 outsiders, long since relocated to London from their home town in Suffolk. Friends long before a band, brought together by being different. 5 young men determined to have their voice heard. Drawing influences from the likes of My Chemical Romance, Misfits, Bowie & Queen, FVK’s songs are unashamedly big. Metal, for sure, but with pop hooks, catchy choruses, layered harmonies; if the Beach Boys amps had gone up to eleven? Lyrically FVK embrace where they’re from. The outside. Reaching out to the disaffected and painting their visions of a better future.

FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS

FVK deliver an incendiary live show, building intense connections with their audience, whether fanatics or FVK virgins. Theatrical, but never afraid to rock out. Twin lead vocals backed up by a full on metal assault.www.fearlessvampirekillers.co.uk www.myspace.com/wearefearlessvampirekillers

STAGE 1 FRIDAY

DISTORTED BREED
Bitter and twisted dirt rock mayhem from the perpetrator of PERFECT DISTORTION! Distorted Breed is the new band fronted by Jim Distortion - a red-hot phoenix raised from the ashes of FUTILE GESTURE and PERFECT DISTORTION by their inimitable mainman, lead vocalist and writer. Shunning the industrial and techno noize that created Perfect Distortion’s sonic backdrop, the new incarnation is down and dirty, bassy and basic with the emphasis on balls-out rock ’n’ roll and Jim’s unmistakeably leonine, yet singularly melodic roar.

NEW DEVICE
The latest addition to the Westmill Farm Festival line-up may be a local band - but they’ve come a very long way! On the 13th June, this London and Hertford-based hard rock outfit were the support act to rock legends BON JOVI at London’s cavernous 02 Arena - and they’re not the only rock giants NEW DEVICE have supported lately - as well as playing at the Download festival and Sonisphere alongside Metallica and Alice in Chains, they’ve toured with Europe and Dear Superstar and shared the billing with the likes of Gun, Bullet For My Valentine, Funeral For A Friend and My Chemical Romance.

NEW DEVICE

Quite a CV for a band that only formed in 2007! NEW DEVICE are a hard rock band, pure and simple. Influenced by stadium rock giants of the late 80s and early 90s such as Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith and Metallica, they manage to achieve what others can’t: solid, authentic hard rock, written by genuinely passionate lifelong fans of the genre. Snapped up by Powerage Records, the band have recently released their debut album, TAKIN’ OVER - a magnum opus recorded with Ryan Richards (Funeral for a Friend) and mixed in Los Angeles by Cameron Webb of Motorhead, Tenacious D and Godsmack fame.

JOAN OV ARC
All-girl hard rockers JOAN ov ARC have toured up and down Europe, the Mediterranean and Caribbean with explosive shows, electrifying audiences at the London Astoria, G3 magazine birthday at Café de Paris, the Garage, The Pitz, The Barfly, summer festivals, military gigs, high profile cruise ships, the Harley Davidson Chopper Show in Slovakia and at Rhythms of the World, to name but a few. They’ve gained support and respect from legendary dudes such as Bruce Dickinson from ‘Iron maiden’ and Brian Howe from ‘Bad Company’ helping them to have national radio airtime; at one BBC6 Radio show, where the girls met Bruce and played a few tunes leaving him flabbergasted and shouting "these girls can shred"!

KILLERSTANCE
A metal band with a little bit extra, drawing influences from a much wider scope than you might expect. They have a bone crunching sound that’s rhythmic, heavy and dripping with melodic twists and technical turns never letting you forget that this is metal! Energetic, creative and powerful, their songs still leaving room for amazing harmonies and immense changes in rhythm and although relatively new to the studio and gigging world, KILLERSTANCE have been known to steal the show and attract major crowds.

Their EP will be released soon but have a three track CD available from mid June 2010 - listen to “When Gods Burn” at:

CRIMZEN
Five-piece female fronted melodic metal band. Formed in 2006 in the depths of Hertfordshire, England, CrimZen are on a quest to caress the senses, scar the soul, and make your body ache till the day you stagger off to hell. CrimZen are led by Kerri's haunting, soulful vocal, which weaves a delicate tapestry with the iron fisted riffs provided by Craig and Alex, which is bitch-slapped into order by Keith's artillery of drums and Chris's slick funky bass lines.

Fusing elements of metal, rock, prog, doom, goth and industrial music has earned the band a reputation for having a colossal wall of sound and a devastating live show. It's this reputation that has seen the band support Irish rock band The Answer, former Progidy guitarist Gizz Butt, and perform to over 1000 people at the Summer Explosion Festival in Hertfordshire. The summer of 2010 sees the release of a brand new EP and dates all over the UK.

THE BLISSETTS
The Blissetts are not for the faint hearted. Led by indomitable front man Paul, Arup on guitar, Ed on bass and Ajay on drums, The Blissetts sound is a car crash of anarcho-punk, rap and old skool rock, with a whole host of current events thrown in. Not ones for shying away from any given subject, The Blissetts have tackled racism, capitalism, unemployment, politics, war, Simon Cowell and even God. They even released their acclaimed single ‘Liars, Cheats, Thieves and Politicians’ on election day 2010. In a world where apathy is preferred to action, a band like The Blissetts is needed now more than ever, just to give us all the kick up the backside that we sorely need to get fired up. The band’s message is a simple one: ‘Don’t blindly believe everything you are told, think about it, investigate it and make up your OWN minds!’.

STAGE 2 HIGHLIGHTS

TOM HINGLEY (Inspiral Carpets)

The only real 'singer' of the 'Madchester' Three (Happy Mondays/Stone Roses/Inspiral Carpets) is putting his clogs back on and entertaining you with a mixture of Inspirals Classics, blues standards and originals taken from his two outstanding solo acoustic releases ‘Keep Britain Untidy’ (2000) and 'Thames Valley Delta Soul’ (2009).

TOM HINGLEY

He’s still lead singer with the Inspirals where along with Shaun Ryder and Ian Brown he came to the fore as part of the late eighties Manchester music scene. As well as being the finest singer of that generation, he also wrote many of the Inspirals’ hit singles. The singing style incorporates Soul, R and B, and Jazz. His delivery is technically superior, and easily more emotive than many of his contemporaries. Celebrated artist Lenny Kravitz was moved to comment ‘You should be singing on Broadway’ after witnessing Hingley singing live at a television recording. Damon Gough (Badly Drawn Boy) , is another aficionado.

STAGE 2 SATURDAY

INSOMNIA

las bragas

LAS BRAGAS
Las Bragas have a distinctive, lively and very danceable sound. Their material is rootsy and diverse but makes perfect sense when you hear them live - one moment doing jigs and reels and the next launching into psychedelic klezmer, salsa or heavy metal! The band has been around in some form or other for 15 years and not surprisingly sounds incredibly 'tight' (not in the alcoholic sense) and well rehearsed live. They rarely play a number the same way twice because the band has an amazing collective ability to jam - and when the audience is up and dancing they'll keep going on a song just as long as they want them to.

WASTED

And then there were four! ‘Good ole Country Rock and Roll’. 21 years together in 2010 and still on that gig train!
Together for 21 years, WASTED now comprises four of the original six band members hence the subtitle. WASTED will be playing their repertoire of music at The Westmill Farm Festival as a warm up to The  Edinburgh Fringe Festival on Aug Friday 27th and Saturday 28th with unique style in this epic year. Still out there gigging having supported the likes of the Legendary sixties band The Animals, Miles Hunt of the Wonder stuff and more recently and on more than one occasion The Trailer Trash Orchestra, WASTED have most definitely found their place playing their own unique style of Americana country/folk rocking alternative tunes with a twist.  Using their own material and carefully re-worked covers to capture the attention, WASTED perform an energetic, humorous, country rock and roll alternative set.‘Good Time beer ‘n’ bourbon fayre served up with honesty, passion and some burning guitar licks for good measure’ Maverick Magazine 2010.
‘Touches of Lynrd Skynrd mixed in with a dose of Willie Nelson with nods to the Dixie Chicks & Gin Blossoms’   Grae J Wall 2010

TOM HINGLEY (EX- INSPIRAL CARPETS)

See above!

GARY LAMMIN

Formerly the main man of seminal bovver boy punk band COCK SPARRER and Joe Strummer-produced blues-rockers LITTLE ROOSTER, Gary ‘Guitar’ Lammin is a bit of a punk legend. Indeed his latest band, The Bermondsey Joyriders, features a member of CHELSEA and RAT SCABIES from THE DAMNED and he’s currently working with ex-PIL bassist Jah Wobble. You may have also seen him acting on The Bill and Eastenders… An unlikely candidate for the acoustic stage? Not really when you hear his solo punk-blues growl and slide guitar and song your mum’ll sing along with!

LOS LADRONES de AMOR

LOS LADRONES

Featuring Kev Saunders, Ed Brown and Arup Ghosh from The Trash (Clash tribute playing the main stage) and Jonathan Miller of double bass, Loas Ladrones de Amor (The Thieves of Love) play acoustic punkish bluesey songs with touch of the latino.

EMILY MAGUIRE

emily maguire

Classically trained on piano and cello, Emily Maguire cites Bach, Bob Marley and Buddha as her influences and puts her schooling to good use in original music that’s ‘Full of vibrancy and blossoming with an abundance of talent and passion, music for the soul...’ according to Maverick Magazine. Uncut Magazine describes her music as ‘soft-focus folk’ with ‘….a modern urban savvy and bite…’ - which explains why the likes of Roddy Frame and Glenn Tillbrook are among the major names who’ve chosen her as a tour support… Emily is also one of the vocalists with RED BOX, who play later of the main stage

JIM RALPHS

KELVIN FUHR
Kelvin Fuhr, multi talented musician and songwriter, is currently focusing on an original suite of piano based songs which explore the corners and depths of human emotions.  Kelvin’s lyrics strike an often uncomfortable chord in the listener.  The words are set to strong musical compositions where his classical training shines through the bluesy melodies.

KELVIN FUHR

Vocally, Kelvin’s voice is earthy, powerful and conveys emotion powerfully - in fact he’s reminiscent of Tom Waits.  Kelvin is currently working on his first album.  Check out some of his compositions at: www.myspace.com/kelvinfuhr

STAGE 2 FRIDAY

(YOUNG BANDS' STAGE)

CHRIS CAPE
Indie space-rapper Chris Cape believes he was born in space, millions of years ago. True or not, he has come to earth bearing anthems to save humanity and taken this planet’s safety upon himself recently, saying, "Demons will come but we will fight them with lasers and kill them…" during an interview with The Sun. After playing over 20 festivals last summer and with even more bookings coming in for this season he is bringing “space-jam” to the stage. With three singles from his forthcoming release Message from Outer-Space ready to go, Cape is expected to receive substantial media attention throughout the Christmas and New Year period. Musically likened to acts MGMT and Gym Class Heroes he is giving pop a forced make-over. Through his constantly updated ChrisCape.com blog and Twitter profile (twitter.com/chriscapeblog Cape is becoming impossible to ignore online. With such an eccentrically intense live show, it is worth getting the “Cape Experience” before it costs loads. “Very impressive." Mike McNally (EMI, Observer, NME/Melody Maker)

PET PETROLEUM

WIDEBOY GENERATION

One of the very few bands that will simultaneously remind you of everything that is great about rock'n'roll while kick-starting your heart with a vital urgency that is sadly lacking in their contemporaries. 'Characterised by cocky charm', is how the dictionary describes the term 'wideboy'... and these lot have that by the shovel-load. A 3-piece band straight outta Garageland, that also have a shedload (as in record in one) of well-honed tunes and crap cutting riffs that prove these guys shoes are for kicking arse..not gazing at! Surely they're too thin and their strides too tight to be wide boys but this lot have got all the swagger and chops and unforgettable choons of The Clash,The Jam,and even The Who, and although they may plough a similar furrow to the aforementioned ledgends as well as nodding in the direction of bands such as Oasis, Supergrass and The Enemy, refreshingly they somehow cut out a brand new groove that's never in a rut. In another era you might even have called this power-pop, and it's big enough, powerful enough and downright catchy enough to kick the crap out of the current crop of indie kids!
